Facility Profile: WTTW11/Chicago
With the advent of the DTV system comes the opportunity to provide
a combination of High Definition and/or multiple Standard Definition
broadcast streams. WTTWÍs Digital Broadcast Operations Center
was conceived to meet those demands of such a signal flow. The
DBOC, with its routing, switching and infrastructure design, was
built to accommodate multiple channel streams. Currently WTTW
is providing its traditional analog NTSC channel as well as a
14 Mbit HDTV channel and a 4.5Mbit SDTV copy of the analog channel
on its DTV channel. The design incorporates digital and multichannel
audio. The DBOC's chief designer gives us a guided tour.
